Group for Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics 

 

Scientific research group for biomedical engineering and biophysics is studying complex system using modern methods and signal processing techniques and the application of modern methods of statistical physics. Object of the research is primarily biological systems (analysis of the activities of individual neurons on animal model to the analysis of brain activation in human), and other complex systems and phenomena (economy .....).

Special attention is given to research in the field neurophysics, where in an attempt to explain the phenomenon of neuronal discharge and use of theoretical methods - modeling of neural systems, mainly at the level of single neurons, using mathematical equations and numerical approach. Numerical research program involves the development and use of modern methods of statistical physics: time series models and stochastic processes. These different approaches are used to study the activity of individual neurons, neural networks, cardiac activity, neurological disorders of movement and economy. Another area of the research is devoted to the phenomena of mesoscopic dynamics of brain activity.

Scientific research group for biomedical engineering and biophysics is an integrative factor that serves to improve the domain knowledge of other scientific research groups of the Institute for Medical Research using the methods and techniques developed in the group.

Scientific research group for the biomedical engineering and biophysics carried out continuously upgrading skills (participation in doctoral studies at the Faculty of Biology and the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education) and improving the quality of the research by introducing and adopting new methods.
