Group for Hematology and Stem Cells

 

Research group for Hematology and Stem Cells performs research in the field of experimental hematology, immunology and stem cells. Main scientific focus of the group relates to:

 

  1. cellular and molecular aspects of the biology and function of hematopoietic and mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSC), as well as the regulatory mechanisms of their regenerative potential and the capacity to modulate hematopoiesis and immunological responses, as the basis for their potential future clinical application.
  2. combined effects of biologicaly active molecules and/or (micro)environmental parameters on the survival, proliferation, differentiation and functional properties of different types of adult stem cells.
  3. mechanisms involved in regulation of hematopoiesis in normal and pathological conditions, both in experimental animals and in humans.
  4. isolation and characterization of MSC from various animal and humantissues as potential candidates for application in cell therapy, tissue engineering, and relevant model systems for controlled in vitro studies.
  5. complex interactions of MSC with various cells in inflammatory and tumor microenvironment.
